Greetings, losers! It's been a while since I've posted, in accordance with my last post, so now I have a new issue to leave you with; do we need religious values in our government?
One thing I constantly see said by Christians and conservatives that while separation of church and state is necessary for a free nation, we need religious(read; "Christian") values in our government. This morning, I read an article in the local newspaper by a priest who was making this very claim. And certainly, Christians feel better knowing that there are fellow Christians serving in the government, and that they are upholding Christian morals and values in our laws and legal system.
And yet, the question remans; do we really want, or need these things?

No. Fact is, we need a secular government, and the reason is simple; a non-religious government will not discriminate between or aganst different religions; it treats one exactly the same as it does another. And if you were to put Chrisitnas values into our laws, the question remains; which ones? Some, like, "love your neighbor", "bear no false witness", "do not sin agaisnt the fatherless or the widowed", and others certainly sound all right; but what about those in the old testament? Laws direct from God Himself, like these?

No, we're better off with a secular government. Anyway, I'll let you mull over that this week, and get ready, 'cause next week I'm posting about the Samurai and the Meiji Restoration.
Please comment below, because if you read this, or any other post, without leaving something in return, you will be reborn as a gut-sucking intestinal parasite--like a tapeworm.

ReplyDeleteYes. We do. But not just any religious values, we need ZEN values.
Imagine a government where everyone went around barking loudly, shitting on the floor, beating each other with sticks, abruptly sitting down on the floor to imitate a dead old log.
Now that would be progress.
Uh... hate to break it to you, but isn't that what our politicians are doing already? ;)
