WILLIAM LANE CRAIG'S PET FOLLY

William Lane Craig, one of the most respected Christian apologists of the 21st century, is a screaming fuckwit. A brain-dead bottom feeder who's gone off the deep end in service to his invisible idol called Jesus. My evidence? This quote I just found on F.S.T.D.T.; "For even though your dog or cat may be in pain, it really isn't aware of it and so doesn't suffer as you would if you were in pain".(source)

I honestly can't think of any response to this drivel. Once, I accidentally shot my dog in the paw with a soft-air BB gun(a plastic ball moving at a fairly low velocity). He screamed and whimpered for several minutes, so I guess he felt something(/sarcasm/). This idiot is simply beneath contempt.

  1. This concept actually originates with Descartes, who declared that non-human animals have no self-awareness and are basically organic automata. So, for example, if you beat a dog and the dog howls, the noise is just an automatic response, like the way a drum makes noise when you beat it -- the dog cannot suffer because there is no self-aware entity there to experience anything, any more than there is in the case of the drum.

Of course this view springs from a mystical, pre-modern, "ghost in the machine" concept of the nature of human consciousness, long ago refuted by modern neurology. It's a safe bet that all mammals, at least, have some degree of self-awareness, since they have the relevant brain anatomy. But the ignorant Craigs of the world still think it's something to do with an imaginary "soul" which only humans have.

  2. Ignorance is the best situation under which to believe in things like demons and souls. Although Craig's ignorance is probably intentional.

  3. Wouldn't it be awesome if Craig, on his deathbed, revealed his last book, claim
ing that all his earlier work was a giant hoax, and that he never believed all that stuff and was seeing how far he could take the premise and continue to retain followers...

    One can dream.
